In August 2017 through the kind offices of Ms. Amruta Fadnavis, River March team got the opportunity to meet the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis at his residence “Varsha” . The team made a presentation to him on the history of River March, about the four rivers of Mumbai that originate from Sanjay Gandhi National Park,especially about Dahisar river, its origins, the pollution of the rivers and the Park, plastic waste and its harm to the environment
Till now all the four rivers were classified as “nullahs” due to the waste and pollutants dumped into it. The team requested Mr. Fadnavis to take steps and declare the rivers in the Government Gazette as “rivers” and not as nullahs and accord them the status and treatment given to a river. The meeting was attended by the then Municipal Commissioner , Mr. Ajoy Mehta and his team of Department Heads, local MLAs, Corporators.
